The Bible talks about two Adams. The first Adam was in the Garden of Eden, the second Adam (Jesus Christ) was in the Garden of Gethsemane. Each Adam was head of their own creation. The first Adam was the beginning, the seed, of the human race. Christ, the second Adam, is the head of the church. With the first Adam, all die. In the second Adam, Christ, all are made alive. Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. Romans 5:12 NKJV By the sin of the first Adam came the judgement of death, and by the righteousness of the last Adam comes the free gift to all men through the justification of life. But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 NKJV
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Genesis 2:7 NKJV We, being the descendants of the first Adam, received our life through our Creator. There were at the time other beings here on earth, but they were not living souls. The last Adam (Jesus Christ) is the life giving spirit and did not receive His life through another. He came from the bosom of God, took on a body of humiliation in order to die, paying the sin debt of the first Adam and giving life to all who will believe. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 1 John 5:12 NKJV Everyone that is born of the seed of Adam dies, and everyone that is reborn of the incorruptible seed of Jesus Christ lives forever.
Those of us who live in pleasure are dead already, even while we living. We are dead to God
because we are still living in sin. We live our life for earthly gain never seeking out the spiritual things of the Lord. The god of this world has blinded us from the truth of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7 NKJV When we fear the Lord we trust Him so we can receive the message of the new birth, which is “God is Light.” All things in this world is exposed by light. The Light or the Word of God gives us the consciousness of sin, and exposes our sinful nature enabling us to turn from that sin and turn towards God. Jesus said, “The Words I speak are spirit and are truth.” These Words are to us life. Whosoever receives these Words by faith has eternal life.
Our natural mind, consciousness, that we received through the first Adam is cleansed by the Word of God. As we study our Bible the Holy Spirit rewires our thinking so that they are in tune with God’s will. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior. Titus 3:4-6 NKJV As we study our Bible on a daily basis, as we fellowship with other Christians, as we spend time in prayer with our heavenly Father, we grow in faith. We learn to trust God, and more and more the mysteries of God are revealed to us.
The sin question that so many people fuss about has already been settled, because all the sins of mankind have been forgiven. People put confidence in their behavior, telling themselves they have been good or they have lived a better life than others. They feel they have earned their way to heaven through their behavior, and this is completely false. It is not a question of sin, but a question of faith. Who do you believe the Son of God is? “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” John 3:18-21 NKJV
“Believing is receiving.” When you believe the Bible that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the next step is to receive the new birth. We place our life into His hands and let Him lead us through this journey, instead of walking blindly as so many do. We are reborn through our daily Bible study and prayer (DBS&P), and through the Holy Spirit of God. When we do this we pass through death into life, because our free gift from God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 5:14 NKJV So this is the truth that is set forth in the Bible. Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God… Unless one is born of water (water is the Word of God) and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 3: 3,5-6 NKJV
Receiving the new birth is no different than a caterpillar changing into a butterfly. We are a new person in Christ, and even though our old self will continue to rear it’s ugly head, we have began the process of regeneration. As we continue our daily study of God’s Word the Holy Spirit little by little changes us to be more like Christ. We may not make the complete change in this life time, but when we are reunited with Christ we will see Him as He is and we will be like Him.
