Our Great Commission

We have a greater commission than angels. God could have chosen angels to spread the gospel, but He did not. Just think about the crowd a cherub or seraph would draw to a Colosseum near you. I can see the headlines now. Next Sunday, here, live at the Colosseum Gabriel the mighty Angel takes on Satan, the devil. The crowds would be huge, but that is not God’s way. He chose a man to save the world, and He chose men to evangelize the world through the gospel of grace. It is important for us to know there is a man, Jesus Christ, Who sits at the right hand side of God, the Father.  He is our High Priest, Mediator, and Intercessor because through His flesh He experienced everything we do here on earth except He did it without sin. When Jesus paid the price for our sins through His crucifixion, He ascended back to His heavenly Father to advocate our well being to the Father.

This gives us great confidence in Christ. Whosoever believes in Him has overcome the world and has eternal life. For this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself…  And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 1 John 5:10-12 NKJV  We believe in Jesus for salvation. He supplies our mental, physical, spiritual, and eternal needs. We believe if we pray according to His will, He will grant whatever we ask.  “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”  Matthew 7:7-8 NKJV

We are anointed with the Holy Spirit. We have no need of anyone to teach us because the Holy Spirit of God reveals to us the truth. Everything we need to know about God is is found in His Word. The Bible is verbally inspired, dictated by the Holy Spirit, and written by God’s chosen men and women.  And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;  knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:19-21 NKJV

We sense an inner feeling or voice as a guide to tell us what is right. Through the witness of our own heart combined with the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, a true believer is very sensitive to right and wrong. We who share the name of Christ should conduct ourselves morally with all we come in contact with. The eyes of the world are on us, watching to see how we live and how we deal with others. We should make a concerted effort to study our Bibles, and as a result, we will grow in faith moving closer to God. …For whatever is not from faith is sin. Romans 14:23 NKJV

We have the seal of God in our hearts. When we hear the Word of God we are convicted of our sins.  We turn  from those sins and turn towards God. We receive the seal of the Holy Spirit. He draws us toward God and He brings us into eternal life through the process of the new birth. He is ever present within us, and assures us that we belong to God. The Holy Spirit is with us until the day of redemption, and protects us from Satan.

  We have the tools to more than empower us to share Christ with others. If we are a new Christian we should spend a couple of years in deep Bible study to prepare us for the road ahead. All great historic Bible leaders spent time in preparation for their ministry. Sharing Christ takes a confident Christian, and aside from Bible study we should practice our talking points with people who have more practical experience than we do. Our Sunday school teacher, our pastor, or our parents can all help us with our approach. The greatest experience I have ever had is watching another person accept Christ through my testimony. So, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV
