The only place to find peace today is in the heart of the believer. Mankind cries out for peace among the nations. We long for peace to replace the violence and hatred in our society today. There is no peace to be found because of the condition of the inner man. Until we solve the discord that is within ourselves peace will not be found upon the earth. Our English word for peace is derived from the Latin word pax, which means tranquility, calm composure, ease, and contentment. This serenity, peace, can only be found through purchased redemption. There is a price that has to be paid. We as Christians know our inner peace was redeemed through the incorruptible blood of Jesus Christ. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. Colossians 1:19-20 NKJV
God can only deal with us through faith in Christ. Without faith all that is left is judgement. We are saved through faith. We are justified through faith. Faith is our heart reaching upwards toward God. The outcome of that faith is love. Faith opens the door to Christ, and love reigns in our heart in appreciation of the love He has for us. Hope is the expectation that all things will be made right through Him. Without faith it is impossible to please God, because whatsoever is not faith is sin. Love is the work of faith, because without the works, or fruits of the Holy Spirit, there can be no faith. Those works are, “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV
Christ promised those who believe perfect peace. “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 NKJV He gives us the peace of mind and the assurance that through Him, and His finished work, all things will be made right. We spend too much time concerning ourselves with our physical life. All who are born are appointed to die. We gain peace of mind when we spend time contemplating spiritual things. Our life here is but a whisper carried by the wind. A mist hovering over the depths of the ocean. We should seek out the things of eternity so we will be prepared to enter our heavenly home.
We cannot know perfect peace until we come under subjection of our Creator. We will not be able to rest from our labors until we rectify our fallen condition through faith in Christ. Jesus says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV We are to trust God in all parts of our life, and at all times. We believe that He is fully capable of handling all of our affairs, and we place everything into His hands. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: “Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”; who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness – by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:21-24 NKJV
God has promised peace through His Son Christ Jesus. It is His pleasure to bless those who walk rightly with the Lord. Christ came so that we may have life, and have it more abundantly. We are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation. Do you have peace with God? It can easily be obtained through the finished work of Jesus Christ. Bow your head, close your eyes, and repeat after me. Dear heavenly Father, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe that He died for me, a sinner, so that my sins can be forgiven, and I can be reconciled with You. Father, place Your Spirit into my heart and lead me in Your ways. In Jesus Christ’s name I pray. Amen.
