There is only one word for love in the English language. In Greek, which the New Testament is written, there is three.
The first word is Eros. This is the love between a husband and wife. It is the expression for sensuality sanctified by God in holy matrimony. This love is shared when two peoples spirits become one and start a family.
The second word for love is Phileo. It means friendship. It is affection and an emotional relationship between friends. The city of Philadelphia is derived from this word. It means brotherly or sisterly love.
The last word for love is the greatest of them all. Agape is a word of dignity and nobility. A love that is given even if the person isn’t worthy to receive such a high honor. It is the love that God shows toward us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son”. Twice Jesus used the word when He asked Peter, “ Do you love Me?… Then feed My sheep. ” The law of love was in the beginning with God. He is the God of grace and because of His grace, Gods love was brought down to us.
Hate blinds the mind. People that live in the spirit of hatred can not recognize the truth. When hatred enters the soul the mind can not think correctly and it clouds our concept of reality. This person needs to pray for understanding and ask God to remove the hatred from their heart.
Someone said, “Truth is the mold in which character is formed, the magnet by which people are attracted from the haunts of sin to the heart of God.” A weak Christian is not normal. We are commanded to be “strong in the Lord ” The secret to spiritual development is to believe and to study the Bible. First we must feed on the milk of the Word, then on the living bread and then on the meat. In the heart of every Christian is the inexhaustible power of the Holy Spirit. This is our source of inspiration. All scripture is given by God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in what is right, that the woman of God may be mature and full of good deeds.
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any person loves the world, the love of the Father is not in them”. 1 John 2:15 When a Christian young person begins participating in worldly lusts, going to questionable places and hanging out with unbelievers they will soon discover that their love for God ,their interest in the Bible and their relationship with fellow Christians will begin to fade . Pray, Bible study and church will become secondary. One sad day joy and peace will be gone. It happens so gradually that most people will not be aware until it’s too late. The most miserable person in the world is a Christian out of fellowship.
There are three types of temptation a Christian must overcome.
1.) The unnatural desire for worldly possessions.
2.) The unnatural desire for the flesh.
3.) The belief that we are better than everyone else. In our spiritual career obedience to the word of God is the solution to every difficulty, the answer to every doubt and worry. Obedience brings every blessing God would like to bestow upon us. It is the power we have with God in prayer. Obedience is the proof that we are abiding in Christ.
So we rejoice in the tribulation of temptation. Knowing that tribulation brings patience and patience brings experience and experience brings hope. Hope makes us not ashamed because we are filled with the love of God and everything we do is filled with that love, we live a full life and our sisters are blessed because of it.
When Christ is in our heart we have the secret to Divine power.
When we listen to Christ every moment we have the secret to knowledge.
When we walk in Christ’s footsteps we have the secret to faith.
When we read our Bible daily we have the secret to Christian growth.
When we love Jesus Christ with all our heart we have unspeakable joy and we are full of His glory.
